Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a sleep-related breathing disorder characterized by repeated episodes of partial or complete obstruction of the upper airway during sleep. The patented device offers an innovative approach to its non-surgical management. It incorporates a controlled and adjustable mechanism that gradually advances the mandible (lower jaw) to help increase the dimensions of the upper airway. This advancement facilitates airflow during sleep and aims to reduce airway obstruction, thereby improving breathing patterns and sleep quality.
Dr Vipul told it that the device represents a promising, patient-friendly and non-invasive therapeutic approach for eligible individuals suffering from OSA. Its adjustable design offers the potential for controlled mandibular advancement according to individual patient requirements.
Dr TP Chaturvedi mentioned that the patent is a noteworthy accomplishment, reflecting the inventors' commitment to interdisciplinary research, technological innovation and the development of clinically relevant solutions for improving patient care. It also highlights the potential of indigenous innovation in addressing an important public health concern.
